This man's bomber jacket was made for a customer's other half as a birthday present and is made from a joined piece of vintage silk kimono, preserving the fabulous crane artwork on the back and the plain parts are from another vintage silk kimono. The lining is also silk with a cotton mix rib for the classic racer neck and cuffs and hem. We hope that inspires a few more men to get with the bespoke program!!

We showed at Lou Lou's Vintage Fair at Nottingham's Albert Hall on the 14th May. Our first vintage fair!!!
My lovely assistant (and daughter!) Romany modelled some of the items throughout the day and we sold enough to get us exited about the prospect of doing more so I'll be adding to the blog... The new studio is taking form at The Jubilee Centre in Birmingham and will be up and running by week ending 13th May 2016! New items on the way and a more commercial range will be coming!
So...We've been Londoners for over 30 years; with a slight blip around The Millennium when we went alternative for a few years then came back. We thought we couldn't change.
But this year we did 'The Big Move'; the forever one! We moved out to Birmingham! What's the attraction? We moved everything including the studio to a bigger house with a view to working from home while we explore the possibility of a new studio here...maybe even a shop. The culture here is to be open to new ideas and the place has an artisan buzz to it. Plus, we decided to change things up a bit for ourselves and that the city style black and white with chrome that dominated 'the noughties' was to go and in would come colour, to suit our more Bohemian style, Kings Heath Victorian terrace... and what a difference! The new futon sofa was a massive change and it converts to a double bed in one fold for guests and the cushions are from Birmingham Bull Ring's 'Khaadi'...fun and funky bright graphics but relating to the antique sari throw we brought with us from 'The Orientalist Bazaar' in Kentish Town Road in London, which is hanging on the wall behind it. The dining room behind it is heather coloured and is acquiring new artworks for the walls and is a work in progress. Everything is new and exciting and we're enjoying the local atmosphere and while I worry about getting the house habitable, Romany is busy on her projects which include a May bride's alternative forest wedding outfit. Having bought one of our lovely pieces you will want to know more about its' care.
We recommend you play safe if you're a novice about silk/vintage pieces in general or if you just don't trust yourself with the laundry, and have the garment dry cleaned by a specialist. If you are familiar with silk in general you'll know that the best way to wash it is by hand in cool/warm water using a gentle soap product and simply squeeze the wet garment to remove general signs of wear. Rinse in clean cool/warm water and squeeze the excess in a clean towel before drying either flat or for small items, on a hanger, smoothing it occasionally. Extra care should be taken when dealing with heavy gold printing and embroidery. A cool iron setting is OK to use but we advise using a damp pressing cloth or a steam iron on light steam using a piece of silk organza to cover the area before ironing the fabric face to avoid impressions and even safer, a cool iron on the back only.
