About 'Objects'...
'Objects of Desire' is an ever changing collection of Japanese kimonos which in their own right are beautiful artworks, all created in the last century.
Each piece is unique because the fabrics, the prints and patterns and embellishments were made by artisans who prided themselves in creating something new and delightful for each and every order.
The themes were mainly from flora and fauna or simply reflections of their lifestyles and the ceremonial silk robes always tried to convey a feeling of luxury. These ubiquitous costumes were created to delight the eye whilst remaining true to the original principles of the 'kimono' - which loosely translates as simply... 'something to wear'.

What We Also Do...
The kimonos, especially the very heavy formal ones, although beloved of the gift giver or subject of that fanciful purchase, are mostly too long and the sleeves too cumbersome for more than the occasional use which results in the beautiful silk garment languishing in the wardrobe or at best, hanging on the wall. In addition, the fit is limited to a smaller frame worn with the obi sash in its intended format, leaving the average Western kimono lover
longing for the un-obtainable.
However, those who adore the jewel bright, gold and silver embellished prints, the subtle hand painted delicate florals or the witty landscapes can still indulge in an original, untouched kimono to waft around in at home, taking care not to trip on the hem, but wearing them loose as a houserobe or luxury dressing gown. Others do buy them to hang up as art. Indeed some of 'Objects' customers have even decorated their homes around the pieces they've bought!
...but we can do more than just sell them!
As I'm a designer skilled in pattern making, technical fit and garment construction, I can offer a bespoke service where I make adjustments.
I can shorten and even re-style them, as requested, whilst maintaining their authenticity as far as is possible, making it a truly unique shopping experience. Above and beyond.
First add the item to your 'cart' then go to the 'Adaptations Store' and choose your re-style from the diagrams and information there.
The whole process can take place remotely and any queries or changes dealt with via messages, emails or just contacts through this site.
